before then, the company will double its seating capacity and plans a two-hour service frequency on important routes.
The railway competitor Flixtrain plans to gradually introduce about 65 new Talgo long-distance trains starting in 2028. “The first trains are already in production. We are exactly on schedule,” André Schwämmlein, CEO of Flixtrain, told the news agency dpa. He did not specify when all the trains would be delivered. “The ramp-up will certainly take some time,” he merely noted. “It is not possible to launch 65 new trains onto the network in a single day.”
According to the company, the current Flixtrain fleet consists of 15 trains. Until the arrival of the new rolling stock, the company will continue to use modernized, used vehicles. Seating capacity is reportedly set to double over the next two years. For passengers, this means an expansion of the existing long-distance service offering. “We will be able to offer a two-hour service frequency on major routes,” the company head stated.
The new vehicles are intended to form the basis of Flix’s long-distance train fleet in the future. The company announced the order for the new trains, valued at €2.4 billion, in May. It initially includes 30 new high-speed trains with an option for 35 more. Flixtrain intends to definitely exercise this option.
