The railway company is starting extensive renovation work on the Bad Reichenhall-Berchtesgaden line, which requires a complete shutdown until December 1st. According to the railway, the construction measures are intended to sustainably improve the quality and stability of the line.
3,734 Meters of Tracks Are Being Replaced
According to a DB press release, the work will particularly affect the technically challenging steep section near Hallthurm. In total, DB will replace 3,734 meters of tracks by the beginning of December. Additionally, around 3,000 so-called “twin sleepers” will be installed. Their design is meant to increase the track’s resistance to shifting, which is a benefit on tight curves and steep gradients, such as those found on the line near Hallthurm.
The railway will also rebuild eleven culverts along the line. During the closure, the tracks on the loading ramp used by the German armed forces will also be renewed, as will several switches in Bad Reichenhall and at Berchtesgaden station. Work on the overhead power lines between Hallthurm and Bischofswiesen will also take place.
Rail Replacement Bus Service Established
The construction work will mostly take place during the day between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., but on some days, work will also be done at night. During the track closure until December 1st, the BRB will set up a rail replacement bus service.
Passengers are asked to check for updates on their journey before traveling using the online schedule information at www.bahn.de or via the DB Navigator app. Detailed information is also available from the BRB on its website at and through its WhatsApp channels.
