Police Rescue Baby Trapped in Overheated Car in Ingolstadt

An eleven-month-old infant was accidentally locked inside a hot car in Ingolstadt on Tuesday afternoon, creating a potentially life-threatening situation in the summer heat. The child was rescued in time thanks to the swift intervention of the police.

According to police, the 28-year-old father had parked his vehicle at the roadside and, upon exiting, apparently left the car key inside. Shortly after he closed the door, the vehicle locked automatically, leaving his young son trapped inside.

Desperate, the father initially tried to break a window himself but failed. As the temperature inside the car continued to rise rapidly, he called the police. Officers arrived promptly and, using a baton, smashed the rear left side window. The infant was freed without delay.

Emergency medical personnel assessed the child at the scene and confirmed he was unharmed despite the heat, bringing a fortunate end to what could have become a tragic incident.

A fatal reminder of the risks came from Spain, where a two-year-old boy died after being left in a vehicle for several hours in the intense sun. The incident occurred in the Catalan city of Valls. Local police confirmed the child’s death on Tuesday, noting that resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

Experts warn that even at moderate outside temperatures, a car’s interior can become dangerously hot within minutes. Children are particularly vulnerable to heat because they absorb roughly three times as much heat as adults and have a smaller body surface area, which reduces their ability to dissipate it. Their underdeveloped sweat glands also make them less effective at cooling down.

Animals face similar risks. In one recent case in Dingolfing, a young man left his dog in a parked car while visiting a swimming pool. When he returned, the animal had already died from the heat. Incidents like these, which often make headlines during the summer, highlight the extreme danger of leaving children or pets in vehicles during warm weather.
