Munich / Berg am Laim – Near Berg am Laim station, the Munich Fire Department evacuated around 200 passengers from a stranded regional train. The rescue operation led to significant disruptions in rail traffic in the area.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of Monday, June 10, when a fault in the overhead line damaged the pantograph of the train that was traveling toward Kufstein, according to the fire department. As a result, the train was no longer able to continue its journey. Official reports confirmed that about 200 travelers were on board at the time.
Emergency services from the Federal Police, Bayerische Regionalbahn, Deutsche Bahn, and the Munich Fire Department were immediately dispatched to the scene. A railway emergency manager also arrived on site. Because the train had come to a stop on an open track away from any platform, passengers had to be rescued from the carriages using ladders. They were then safely escorted to the nearby Hermann-Weinhauser-Straße.
Throughout the entire evacuation and recovery effort, the affected rail section remained completely closed, the fire department reported. Rail traffic in the area was therefore severely restricted. Replacement bus services were provided for the stranded passengers. In addition, emergency personnel informed travelers about a nearby tram stop as an alternative option for continuing their journey.
