Where to Swim Around Augsburg: An Overview of All Indoor Pools

The April sun in Bavaria is often deceptive; despite the arrival of spring, the season for lake swimming is still far off.

While open waters continue to warm, the primary activity for water sports enthusiasts remains concentrated in indoor complexes. In the vicinity of Augsburg, several venues are operational, each offering distinct conditions — ranging from budget-friendly swimming to relaxation in modern, panoramic halls.

We have examined the infrastructure of popular pools in Neusäß, Diedorf, and other neighbouring municipalities to compile an up-to-date guide for those planning to visit aquatic centres this season.

When choosing a venue, it is worth noting that municipal pools in the district vary significantly in their purpose. While some establishments maintain a classic sporting format, others are gradually transforming into family leisure centres. Below is a detailed review of three key facilities that will help you maintain fitness and relax while awaiting truly summer weather.

Gersthofen Indoor Pool

The local pool in Gersthofen is an optimal solution for those prioritising accessibility and functionality. This venue, with a 50-year history, consistently attracts visitors due to the lowest entry fee in the district — just four euros. There are no superfluous decorative elements here; instead, all conditions are provided for a high-quality aquatic workout.

The main 25-metre pool is divided into five lanes, allowing swimmers to distribute themselves comfortably according to their pace. The water temperature is maintained at 28–29 degrees Celsius, which is considered standard for active swimming. For diving, a tower with one- and three-metre platforms is provided. Parents with children will appreciate the presence of a training pool where the water is significantly warmer — approximately 32 degrees. This temperature difference is critical for young children spending extended periods in the water learning basic skills. A bistro is also available on-site, offering a standard selection of meals and refreshments.

Stadtbergen Garden Indoor Pool

The pool in Stadtbergen, known among locals as the “Garden Pool,” offers a higher level of comfort, which is reflected in the admission price — €5.50 for two hours. The main 25-metre pool features a dedicated section for those planning to swim distances without interference from other visitors. Diving enthusiasts will find one- and three-metre platforms here as well.

Special emphasis in Stadtbergen is placed on infrastructure for the youngest visitors. In addition to a standard children’s pool, there is a designated infant area equipped with changing tables, making this a popular choice for young families. The spatial organisation is designed so that noisy play in the children’s zone causes minimal disturbance to those relaxing in the main pool. Snacks are available in a cosy bistro located in the main lobby of the complex.

Leonhard-Wagner-Welle Complex in Schwabmünchen

For those preferring a contemporary setting, the Leonhard-Wagner-Welle in Schwabmünchen is the premier choice. This is the newest facility in the region, constructed using modern architectural solutions. The primary advantage of the complex is the panoramic glazing on the upper floor where the 25-metre pool is situated. While swimming, visitors enjoy a sweeping view of the surroundings, which sets this venue apart from traditional enclosed halls.

The diving area includes a one-metre springboard and a three-metre platform; however, it should be noted that due to training by sports associations, diving access is typically restricted to Saturdays and Sundays. The infrastructure also includes a training pool and a children’s area with a slide. Entry is priced at €5.50, consistent with the level of equipment and comfort. Currently, this is the most technically advanced option for aquatic activities in the Augsburg area.

Titania Leisure Complex in Neusäß

The Titania complex in Neusäß occupies a unique position within the district’s infrastructure, standing out significantly from standard municipal venues. It is a large-scale recreational centre offering a spectrum of services far broader than a classic swimming hall. The facility’s popularity is so substantial that, during peak periods, management is compelled to implement temporary entry restrictions to maintain a comfortable environment and adhere to safety regulations. Accordingly, the pricing policy is geared towards the premium family leisure segment: adult tickets for the morning tariff start from €15.

The complex’s engineering solutions include a water attractions zone and a professionally equipped sauna. The water temperature in the indoor pool is maintained at 31°C, creating ideal conditions for extended stays. An original design featuring an artificial grotto allows guests to observe aquarium fish without leaving the water, while integrated whirlpools and massage jets provide high-quality hydrotherapy. For those seeking active recreation, there is a 25-metre sports pool with more bracing water, a funnel slide, and the “Black Hole” attraction. The extensive sauna area is complemented by a hammam pool (32°C), hot baths, and a steam room. The facility’s infrastructure also includes a catering area located on the ground floor.

Zusmarshausen Swimming Pool

For those preferring functionality and the ability to focus on the sporting component, the pool in Zusmarshausen is an optimal choice. This venue is ideal for methodical evening training. At a moderate admission cost — €3.50 for a three-hour session — visitors gain access to a full 25-metre lane.

A technical feature of the facility is its adjustable floor: daily from 18:00 to 19:30, the depth is modified to provide a safe zone for non-swimmers and small children. It should be noted that the operational schedule may change during school holidays or public holidays; therefore, the administration recommends consulting the current timetable on the official community website.

Gymnasium Indoor Pool in Königsbrunn

The Gymnasium indoor pool in Königsbrunn (Alter Postweg, 3) serves as an example of the successful shared use of school and public infrastructure. Visitors are offered a 25-metre pool with six lanes and variable depths ranging from 0.9 to 1.90 metres, allowing for the effective separation of training flows. The temperature regime is set for maximum comfort: water at 28°C and air at 30°C.

Personnel changes have affected the schedule this season: public swimming sessions are not being held in April. The summer season officially launches on Wednesday, 6 May, after which the pool will be open to the general public on Wednesday and Friday evenings. It is important to note that the facility closes for technical maintenance during official Bavarian school holidays. Admission is €4 for adults and €2 for children; entry is free for children under the age of seven.

Swimming Hall at Diedorf Primary and Secondary School

Despite its compact dimensions (a 16 by 8-metre pool), the pool in Diedorf is highly regarded by local residents. A primary social privilege is the right of free admission for community residents on Thursdays. Water safety during these times is ensured by qualified rescue service personnel.

Water at 28°C is optimal both for teaching children the basics of breaststroke and for moderate physical activity for adult visitors. Notwithstanding the small area, efficient time management allows for the comfortable coexistence of parents with children and those aimed at intensive swimming. Guests particularly highlight the high maintenance quality of ancillary facilities, such as changing rooms and shower cubicles.

Small Pool at Fischach Primary School

The pool in Fischach is open five days a week and focuses on creating a cosy, almost familial atmosphere. The small size of the pool (17 by 8 metres) is compensated for by the attentive service of the staff. During periods of low occupancy, a professional instructor can provide personal recommendations on improving swimming technique or help children overcome the psychological barrier before their first dive. Average attendance is approximately 45 people per day, ensuring a lack of congestion. Entry fees are set at €4 for adults and €2 for youth.

Untermeitingen Indoor Pool

The facility in Untermeitingen (16 by 8 metres) has established itself as one of the best centres for introductory swimming lessons. Guests note the particularly intimate setting, conducive to learning at a calm pace. Thanks to the adjustable floor system, the pool depth can be adapted to specific lesson objectives. An affordable entry price — €3 for adults — makes this pool an attractive option for regular wellness visits.

Steppach Swimming Pool

In the Neusäß-Steppach district, a pool situated at the local primary school is open for public access three evenings per week (Wednesday to Friday). The 9 by 20-metre pool is designed to meet the needs of different age groups: a safe shallow section with a depth of 95 cm transitions smoothly into a deep section (1.85 m). The cost of a 90-minute session for adults is €4. For regular visitors, a flexible loyalty system is provided, including passes for 6 and 12 visits, as well as annual cards. As with most school-based facilities, the pool suspends operations during holidays and school breaks.

The variety of venues available in the Augsburg district ensures that every resident can find the optimal balance between cost, comfort, and sporting objectives. Whether at the high-tech Titania complex or a quiet school-based pool, the key factor remains the maintenance of high standards in water quality and safety, making aquatic leisure in the region both accessible and high-grade.
