For the first time, an Afghan citizen was deported from Bavaria on a regular flight.

The German Ministry of the Interior has announced an increase in the number of deportations, including to Afghanistan.

One repeat offender has already been returned from Bavaria to his homeland on a regular commercial flight. According to Alexander Dobrindt, preparations for further returns are currently underway.

A 28-year-old repeat offender has been deported from Bavaria to Afghanistan via a commercial flight. Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) announced the move following an initial report by the publication Bild. Federal Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) confirmed that subsequent deportations to Afghanistan are already being planned. According to his information, the deported Afghan national was sent back to his country of origin immediately after serving a one-and-a-half-year prison sentence.

Joachim Herrmann noted that thanks to the decisive actions of Federal Minister Alexander Dobrindt, regular airline flights have become possible following a successful charter flight in July. The head of the Bavarian department argued that this step represents significant progress, increasing the flexibility of return procedures to Afghanistan and saving time.

Federal Police Accompanied the Convict

The man was accompanied during the flight by Federal Police officers, who then handed him over to authorities in Kabul, according to the Federal Ministry of the Interior. The return journey reportedly took place via Istanbul.

Joachim Herrmann emphasized that he has long advocated for the resumption and regularization of deportations to Afghanistan. In his view, it is good news that such removals are now occurring systematically. Priority must be given to criminals and individuals who pose a threat to public safety. He added that those who abuse the right of hospitality are obliged to leave the country as quickly as possible.

Alexander Dobrindt, in a comment to Bild, also confirmed that it is in the state’s interest to ensure that offenders and dangerous individuals leave for Afghanistan. The Minister explained that those who commit crimes in Germany forfeit their right to stay. According to him, the process of deportations to Afghanistan has begun and will be expanded step by step. A spokesperson for the ministry added that in the future, returns are planned to be carried out regularly. The Federal Ministry of the Interior has reached corresponding agreements with representatives of the de facto government of Afghanistan.
