Munich — Tree felling operations are set to begin this Monday in Nymphenburg Palace Park and Hartmannshofer Park. The Bavarian Administration of State-Owned Palaces, Gardens, and Lakes (BSV) has asked visitors for their understanding regarding temporary restrictions and cordoned-off areas. The agency explained: “These measures serve to ensure traffic safety and the long-term preservation of the tree population. The work is being conducted in strict accordance with species protection legislation.”
Many of the affected trees are ash trees suffering from a fungal disease that causes dieback. This disease severely damages the crowns and causes significant harm to the root systems. Additionally, several linden trees must be felled due to mistletoe infestation. Furthermore, young trees that hinder the growth of valuable or historically significant plantings will be removed.
In particularly important areas, new trees will be planted. The goal of these measures is “to create a stable tree population appropriate to the local environment.”
