Setup for Tollwood Winter Festival Begins on Theresienwiese

While the final traces of the Oktoberfest disappear, the Tollwood team is working to transform the grounds into a vibrant, sustainable festival village. Everything is scheduled to be ready by November 25th – when the popular winter festival opens its gates.

From then until December 23rd, everything on Theresienwiese will revolve around the theme “Now More Than Ever!” The festival organizers are calling for peace, democracy, and climate action – and are making this message visible across the entire site with new art installations, performances, and discussion formats.

Hovering above it all this year is a huge, glittering peace dove, created by Munich artists Torsten Mühlbach and Gregor Passens. After dusk, messages for peace and community will be projected onto the roof of the Mercato tent.

Setup Work in Full Swing

The Food Plaza is already set up, and the tarps are being stretched in the Bazar tent. In the coming days, the second market tent “Mercato,” the vegan and vegetarian “Esszimmer” (Dining Room), and the “Hexenkessel” (Witches’ Cauldron), which will later host live concerts, will follow.

The very last element will be the circus tent erected by the French Compagnie Cirque Ici – for the show “Terces” by artist Johann Le Guillerm, which will be available from the start of the festival. In parallel, installations and stages for fire shows and performances are being constructed. The food stalls are also gradually being set up. Admission to the festival grounds will be free for all visitors again this year.

Tollwood Winter Festival 2025: What’s New

This year, in the “Engagement Lab” in the Bazar, visitors can become active themselves, exchange ideas, and participate in workshops. On the open-air grounds, a large peace sign by artist Veronika Angloher invites visitors to leave personal messages of peace.

In the theater tent, every Wednesday is dedicated to “Voices That Move” – featuring live reports, discussions, and talks on current topics. Guests will include Louisa Schneider, Boris Herrmann, Christian Zaschke, Francesca and Gerald Knaus, as well as peace researcher Anna Kreikemeyer.

New Year’s Eve with Harry Klein

For the first time, when purchasing tickets for a theater show, visitors can also voluntarily contribute a “Climate-Fair” fee of three euros. This will offset consequential CO₂ costs, with the funds flowing directly into projects run by the Klimaschutz+ Stiftung e.V. and the Klima-Bündnis e.V. With this, Tollwood is the pilot project for the new “Munich Model,” which aims to encourage other cultural institutions to participate.

After the festival concludes, the big Tollwood New Year’s Eve party will take place on December 31st – with live music, DJs, and the Munich cult club Harry Klein. Once again, Theresienwiese will become a meeting point for all generations wanting to dance together into the new year.
