Chef Jens Madsen and the collective of his restaurant in the exhibition complex BMW Welt were awarded a high honor. At the same time, the renowned masters Jan Hartwig and Tohru Nakamura successfully confirmed their three-star status, consolidating the city’s reputation as one of the main centers of haute cuisine in Germany.
Jens Madsen achieved a major professional success. Exactly twelve months after he, together with his employees, opened the premium cuisine restaurant “The Cloud by Käfer” in the Munich complex BMW Welt, the establishment received two prestigious stars in the “Michelin” guide.
During the solemn awarding ceremony which took place yesterday evening in Frankfurt am Main, the chef emphasized that this grandiose journey is only beginning. He expressed deep gratitude to colleagues who throughout the entirety of the last year worked with maximum commitment, creating unique culinary masterpieces for guests.
Jens Madsen Formed His Own Culinary Handwriting
In the current year, Jens Madsen for the first time presented the restaurant “The Cloud” for the evaluation of “Michelin” inspectors. The companies BMW and Käfer completely renovated the premises on the third floor of the complex, where previously was located the restaurant “EssZimmer” under the leadership of Bobby Bräuer, which also had two stars.
After the departure of the former chef, the space was completely rebuilt. In the new project, Madsen realized fundamentally different culinary approaches, creating author’s dishes on the basis of local products and demonstrating respect for traditions and artisanal mastery. The high evaluation of the inspectors confirmed the correctness of the course of development chosen by the Chef of the restaurant.
Two stars were also retained by the restaurant “Atelier” located in the hotel “Bayerischer Hof”.
The new chef Kevin Romes had very little time to demonstrate his abilities, since he headed the kitchen of the establishment only at the beginning of April. Previously, the restaurant already possessed a two-star status, however, its former head Anton Gschwendtner unexpectedly left his post at the end of last year. Since Kevin Romes in this case confirmed the already existing awards, he did not receive an individual invitation to the festive event in Frankfurt, which, however, does not diminish the value of the work performed by him on preserving the standards of quality.
The Possessor of Three Stars of the Culinary Guide Began His Career in Munich
Among the best chefs of Germany, as in the past year, entered two representatives of the Bavarian capital.
Jan Hartwig (restaurant “Jan”) and Tohru Nakamura (establishment “Tohru in der Schreiberei”) were able to defend the highest status of three stars. It is noteworthy that the new possessor of three stars Daniel Schimkowitsch also once won his first Michelin award on the banks of the Isar — this occurred in the year two thousand fourteen in the Munich restaurant “Tramin”. Now this high-class culinary specialist works in the city of Deidesheim in the restaurant “L.A. Jordan”.
One of the most famous masters of German gastronomy adopted a decision to complete his activity in the current year.
Sven Elverfeld, whose length of service constitutes a quarter of a century, including seventeen years at the highest three-star level, announced his exit from the “Michelin” system. His famous restaurant in Wolfsburg completely ceased operation, marking the conclusion of an entire epoch in the restaurant business. At the same time, Nelson Müller returned to the number of laureates. His establishment “Schote” temporarily lost the award after a change of address, however, now the famous TV chef jointly with Erik Schmitz returned the star status in the city of Bergisch Gladbach.
Another reason for pride in Munich became the awarding of Noris F. Conrad.
The sommelier, who has already been laboring for a year in the famous Munich restaurant “Tantris”, was honored with a personal professional prize for an outstanding contribution to the development of the wine card. At the same time, a certain loss in the gastronomic sphere of Munich was sustained by Dominik Käppler — his restaurant “Showroom” lost its “Michelin” star.
The development of the restaurant business in Munich demonstrates high dynamics and the ability of the local industry to adapt to the changing demands of the public. The success of new projects and the preservation of positions by recognized masters confirm that the city retains for itself the status of one of the key centers of attraction for lovers of haute cuisine in Germany.
