To protect residents and state-protected historic buildings, the city of Günzburg has, as in previous years, implemented a general ban on fireworks in the Old Town.
According to an official statement from city authorities, Günzburg’s Old Town is particularly vulnerable due to its dense layout and numerous historic half-timbered houses, which are highly susceptible to fire. The city administration decided to formalize the restrictions already established in the Explosives Act by issuing a general decree effective from December 31, 2025, to January 1, 2026. This restriction applies to the launch of Category F2 pyrotechnics—small fireworks such as rockets, firecrackers, and battery displays.
Priority for Safety and Heritage Preservation
Authorities have prioritized the physical safety of residents and the preservation of fire-sensitive historic buildings over the general right to use pyrotechnics in the city center. This measure aims to prevent threats to the life and health of residents and visitors, as well as to eliminate the risk of fires in the Old Town. While the use of pyrotechnics in the immediate vicinity of such buildings was already prohibited by law, the new decree clearly defines the boundaries of this zone for public clarity.
