Munich – It is 7:59 a.m. on the first Wiesn Saturday. Thousands of visitors are waiting in long queues outside the festival grounds. They are unaware of the drama unfolding just a few meters away near the showmen’s caravans. The emergency call reaches the Wiesn ambulance service via the Integrated Control Center: a lifeless person has been found.
Oktoberfest Opening: Ambulance Service Reports Fatality Before Wiesn Start
A response team from the ambulance service, including two doctors, was on the scene three minutes later and immediately began resuscitation measures. However, the sad certainty eventually arrived. “Unfortunately, the emergency personnel were unable to successfully resuscitate the approximately 70-year-old female patient,” the ambulance service wrote in a statement.
Simultaneously, the Wiesn police station arrived and took over the case. A crisis intervention team from the Wiesn ambulance service took care of the bereaved relatives. Further details are not yet known.
The day does not get any quieter for the doctors and paramedics. Just an hour and a half later, around 9:30 a.m.—only half an hour after the festival grounds opened—the emergency crews are called to a second incident. A young man is examined on suspicion of having a stroke.
