For this, the airport is now looking for volunteer participants. At the end of each day, the test passengers will even receive a gift.
The trial run is designed to realistically simulate a normal travel day—from check-in and security control to boarding, arrival, and baggage claim. This will test not only technical systems but also the coordination between airlines, police, customs, and security services.
The goal is to ensure that everything runs smoothly from the very first minute on opening day, as stated on Munich Airport’s website.
The volunteers will take on fictional roles—for example, as a passenger departing for Dubai or arriving from Hong Kong. Of course, no real tickets are needed for the tests. The airport will provide all necessary documents and dummy suitcases.
A typical test day begins with registration and a morning briefing, followed by trial runs of various processes. After a lunch break, further scenarios are tested before the day concludes with a feedback session.
Anyone aged 18 or over who is physically fit and available for the entire test day can participate. Participation is only possible after prior online registration, and each person can specify two preferred dates.
The trial operations will take place on several days between November 11, 2025, and January 27, 2026. Some dates will include additional emergency drills.
Meals are included, with vegetarian, vegan, and meat-based options available. Those arriving by car can park for free in the P1 or P5 parking garages. Participants only need to bring their ID and the registration QR code.
As a small thank you, all test passengers will receive a souvenir gift. The airport has not yet provided specific details about the gift on the registration page.
Back in June, t-online got a behind-the-scenes look during a press tour of the new pier. The new gates, passenger boarding bridges, and security areas were largely completed by June, with the pathways almost fully developed. Airport CEO Jost Lammers described it as a “travel experience with a Bavarian soul” and announced the trial operations at that time.
