BMW Slams into Guardrail After Driver Loses Control
Late Saturday night, the driver was heading toward Karlsfeld from Dachau in a BMW 4 Series when the crash happened around midnight. Just 150 meters before reaching the Karlsfeld town entrance, he lost control of the vehicle. The car struck a guardrail, spun across the road, completed a full rotation, and finally came to a stop on a traffic island in front of a traffic light.
Driver Sustains Minor Injuries, Passenger Escapes Unharmed
The driver sustained minor injuries in the collision. His 28-year-old passenger, a resident of Karlsfeld, was reportedly unharmed. The BMW suffered extensive damage and was deemed a total economic loss. Authorities estimated the vehicle damage at around €25,000. Additionally, approximately 30 meters of guardrail were severely damaged, with repair costs expected to exceed €15,000. The wrecked vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
Driver Found with Nearly Two Promille of Alcohol
Upon arriving at the scene, officers from the Dachau police department detected a strong smell of alcohol on the driver. A breathalyzer test revealed an alcohol concentration close to two promille. Witnesses also reported that the vehicle was traveling at a significantly excessive speed. The police subsequently collected a blood sample, and the driver’s license was confiscated on the spot.
Emergency Services Secure Accident Site for Hours
Along with the Dachau police, firefighters from Dachau and Karlsfeld as well as road maintenance crews responded to the scene. The operation to secure the area, remove debris, and restore traffic safety continued for several hours.
