Flight Suspension Follows Regional Escalation
Citing heightened instability in the region, Lufthansa confirmed it will suspend all Tel Aviv-bound flights as a precautionary measure. The suspension, effective immediately, is expected to last through May 6. Swiss International Air Lines, also part of the Lufthansa Group, has likewise suspended flights to Israel during this period. Affected passengers are being notified and rebooked on alternative flights when available.
Missile Strike Near Ben Gurion Airport Triggers Immediate Action
The decision was prompted by a missile attack carried out by Yemen’s Houthi militia, which for the first time affected the vicinity of Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport. The Israeli military confirmed that a projectile landed near the airport. According to emergency service Magen David Adom, eight people were injured in the incident. The Israeli government has pledged a forceful response to the attack.
Lufthansa Cites Passenger Safety as Top Priority
Lufthansa had previously taken similar precautions. In September of last year, the airline suspended flights to Israel due to mounting security concerns, with the halt in service lasting until October 22. As with previous incidents, the airline emphasized its commitment to passenger safety, stating, “The safety of our passengers and crews is our highest priority.”
