Tram Line 19 in Munich: Temporary Resumption Ends Soon as New Construction Halts Service Again from June

The extension of Munich’s U-Bahn line U5 continues to impact tram operations in the city’s west.

After months of disruption, tram line 19 will resume its full route to Pasing starting Monday, April 28, 2025. However, this return to normal service will be brief, with another planned interruption beginning in early June.

Service Resumes Between Willibaldplatz and Pasing – Temporarily

Since July 2024, the tram section between Willibaldplatz and Pasing Station had been fully closed due to construction of the new U-Bahn station “Am Knie.” As part of the project, tram tracks were relocated to the eastern side of the street to make room for building the western section of the new underground platform. During the closure, buses substituted tram service.

Now that the track relocation has been completed, the Munich Transport Company (MVG) announced that both the day and night tram lines 19 and N19 will operate along their original routes starting April 28. As a result, the bus replacement service will be suspended—though only temporarily.

New Disruptions Begin June 2 Due to Tram West Tangent Project

Relief for passengers will be short-lived. From Monday, June 2, 2025, another section of the line will be closed due to ongoing construction on the Tram West Tangent project at the intersection of Agnes-Bernauer-Straße and Fürstenrieder Straße. A new track crossing will be installed, overhead power lines will be rerouted, and existing track systems will undergo significant refurbishment.

As a result, tram services between Lautensackstraße and Pasing will be suspended once again, and buses will take over this section of the route. According to the MVG, this construction phase is scheduled to last until Sunday, August 31.

Passengers Urged to Plan Ahead

The MVG has made detailed information about these disruptions available on its website. Passengers are encouraged to check alternate connections and departure times in advance to account for possible delays.
