“Our top priority this year remains the never-ending flow of road traffic,” noted District Chairwoman Carmen Dullinger-Oswald (Greens). A prime example is Giesinger Berg, where a long-planned bridge has been a recurring topic of discussion for years. The bridge would provide a simple connection between the 17th and 18th districts. “The plans are fully completed and ready,” Dullinger-Oswald explained. “However, the bridge cannot be commissioned because the necessary funds are lacking.”
Expansion of Cycle Paths and Completion of St. Martin Hospital
There is also positive news: according to a letter from the Department of Mobility, an expansion of the cycle path on Giesinger Berg between Columbusplatz and the intersection at the Church of the Holy Cross is scheduled to begin in March. Additionally, the Adult Education Center (VHS) will soon be able to return to its premises in the St. Martin Hospital.
However, the department did not say whether this would change the statistics on cyclists’ recklessness, failure to comply with traffic rules, and the number of accidents caused by cyclists.
The extensive renovation of this protected landmark has been underway since early 2023 and is now nearing completion. “Be sure to visit the building,” the District Chairwoman invited. “It is well worth seeing the innovations for yourself.”
The housing settlement at Perlacher Forst will also return to the agenda. “We will ensure that any densification of buildings remains acceptable and can be supported by many residents of the settlement.” The “Green Villages” project is no longer under consideration.
School Renovation Plans in Obergiesing for 2026
“We must ensure that several schools in our quarter are put back in order,” stated Carmen Dullinger-Oswald. For instance, the rooftop sports field at the Asam-Gymnasium is currently unusable. City officials explained to Hallo that this was “caused by poor-quality installation of the surface coating.” The construction and sports departments intend to carry out repairs by summer 2026, provided the issue of liability for the defects is resolved by then.
According to Dullinger-Oswald, the secondary school on Perlacher Straße also urgently requires a drinking fountain. Furthermore, she expressed hope that the construction of the school on Weißenseestraße will be completed on schedule. According to the building department, everything is currently progressing as planned.
