Munich / Sendling – This announcement may bring back memories of last summer—likely not pleasant ones. The central route toward the city center will be impassable again from mid-October until just before Christmas. The railway overpass on Lindwurmstraße is being entirely rebuilt.
Full Closure Details
The important Munich street will be closed to all traffic—including cars, pedestrians, and cyclists—from Monday, October 20, until Friday, December 19. During this period, the bridge superstructures built along the railway will be replaced, and the new bridge will go into operation.
A spokesperson for Deutsche Bahn explained:
“In two work phases, the ten temporary auxiliary bridges installed since summer 2024 will be removed, the new superstructures put in place, and the track—including rails, switches, and overhead lines—restored.” For pedestrians, a shuttle bus will be provided during the closure.
Rail traffic will remain operational thanks to the two-phase construction. However, some trains will terminate at Ostbahnhof, and certain freight trains will need to be rerouted.
Noise and Traffic Restrictions
Residents should expect additional night-time disruptions. “To minimize the duration of the Lindwurmstraße closure, work will be carried out around the clock for four weeks within the scheduled period,” the Deutsche Bahn spokesperson said. Noise forecasts will be calculated in advance.
“For residents exposed to noise levels exceeding legal limits at night, temporary housing will be provided and compensated.” A precise schedule could not be provided by Deutsche Bahn at the time of reporting.
