Automobilia München is considered a cult event for fans of historic vehicles. On March 1, the event will once again take place at the Motorworld München complex. From 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the “Dampfdom” (Steam Dome) building in the Freimann district will transform into a meeting point for collectors, mechanics, and vintage car enthusiasts.
Automobilia Traditions in Munich Since 1979
The story of Automobilia spans more than four decades. The fair was first held in 1979, and its last appearance before a recent hiatus was in 2019 at BMW Welt. Following a pause caused by the pandemic, Motorworld revived the event to great acclaim from participants and visitors alike. The project is now set to continue.
At the market, visitors can find spare parts, historical brochures, technical literature, model cars, signs, and accessories for both classic cars and “Youngtimers” (modern classics). A dedicated marketplace for used vehicles allows both private sellers and dealers to present and offer selected cars for sale. For many visitors, the goal is not just to close a deal, but to exchange experiences and discuss technical details, histories, and vintage driving culture.
Motorworld München: A Site Steeped in History
Since its opening, Motorworld München has become a permanent hub for automotive culture. Located in the heritage-protected former locomotive hall of a railway repair works, it serves as a meeting place for clubs, workshops, and enthusiasts. The area is considered one of the most vibrant locations for technical aficionados in Southern Germany. Project Manager Fabian Böhm described the fair as a vital date in the community’s calendar: “Automobilia represents more than just a market—it is a piece of Munich’s automotive history.”
Motorworld München is situated on a 75,000-square-meter site that formerly housed the Deutsche Bahn repair works in Munich-Freimann. At its center stands the impressive locomotive hall, a recognized architectural monument. Measuring 185 meters in length, 90 meters in width, and up to 18 meters in height, it is one of Europe’s largest historic halls featuring a column-free steel supporting structure.
