Due to the reconstruction of the turning loop at Harras station, delays are expected on the U6 underground line

Since November, reinforcement trains on the U6 line have ceased stopping at the "Harras" station. A Munich resident inquired with the transport company MVG about the reasons and received a surprising response.

Sendling — Reinforcement trains on the U6 line have bypassed “Harras” as a terminus since November. According to the Munich Transport Company (MVG), these trains are being rerouted to “Brudermühlstraße” for the indefinite future because the reversing track at Harras remains unusable.

The diversion has raised eyebrows locally. One resident sought further details: “I found it strange because MVG had only just closed this line for several months of renovation in 2025,” he explained. However, the initial response to his inquiry was even more startling.

In a letter from MVG (obtained by the Hallo editorial team), the company expressed regret over the situation. The text stated: “Unfortunately, there is currently a nationwide shortage of drivers in Germany, which means individual shifts cannot be staffed.” The letter even included a link to the company’s job portal in case the recipient knew anyone interested in becoming a driver.

MVG: Harras Reversing Track Awaits Operating Permit Following June 2025 Derailment

MVG spokesperson Maximilian Kaltner clarified to Hallo that the previous message was the result of a misunderstanding. The actual cause of the restrictions at Harras station stems from a train derailment in June 2025, which occurred shortly after the U6 renovation work was completed.

Although the reversing track at Harras has since been repaired, the company is still waiting for a technical expert report detailing the specifics of the accident. This report is expected to arrive shortly.

Once the report is finalized, MVG can begin the tender process for a specific component required to obtain the official operating permit for the track, Kaltner specified. Approval for the facility to return to service is not expected until the second half of 2026 at the earliest.
