Munich. Chaos hit the Munich U-Bahn (subway) system this morning. Major disruptions occurred on lines U3 and U6. According to the MVG (Munich Transport Company), the cause was a technical fault that has since been rectified. Passengers reported lengthy waiting times, and several services were canceled.
Significant Delays and Cancellations on Two Important Lines – MVG Addresses Passengers
“Following a technical fault on lines U3 and U6, which has now been cleared, there are currently delays, cancellations, and trains turning back early. Please pay attention to the train destination signs and public address announcements,” stated the MVG in a notice regarding the disruptions. The transport company added that they were working to ensure everyone could reach their destinations without disruption as quickly as possible.
The subway disruptions were significant. One Munich resident told our editors that the journey from Implerstrasse to Max-Weber-Platz took him an hour during the morning rush hour due to the breakdown. This route normally takes about 15 minutes by subway, even with a transfer at Odeonsplatz. Waiting times for U6 trains displayed on information boards were reportedly 30 minutes or more in some cases. When the lines will resume their regular schedule remains unclear. Just one week ago, a disruption also occurred on the main line of the Munich S-Bahn (commuter train).
