Despite the rapid spread of the fire and significant material damage, the incident resulted in no casualties. Thanks to the composure of the residents and the swift response of emergency services, a tragedy was averted; however, the circumstances surrounding the start of the fire remain under active investigation by the criminal police.
The situation was complicated by the dense development of the area, which created a real threat of the flames spreading to neighboring residential properties. The scale of the mobilization of civil defense forces and fire brigades underscores the seriousness of the incident: significant technical and human resources from the region were deployed to extinguish the blaze.
Alarm Signal Received in the Late Morning
The distress call reached the dispatch service on Saturday around 11:30 AM. Reports indicated heavy smoke and open flames in a residential building on Weberstraße, officially assigned to the refugee affairs office. By the time the first units arrived, the fire had already managed to damage the facades of several adjacent buildings. The primary task of the firefighters was to localize the source to prevent a catastrophic spread of the flames down the street.
More than 120 emergency service personnel from the town of Wörth am Main and the surrounding Miltenberg district took part in the operation. Although rescuers brought the elements under control relatively quickly, the subsequent stages of the work proved extremely labor-intensive. For several hours, firefighters had to douse the structures and conduct a thorough search for hidden smoldering spots in the ceilings to eliminate the risk of reignition.
No Injuries Among Residents
According to official police data, 13 people were registered in the building at the time of the incident. Fortunately, those who were home when the fire started managed to leave the premises in time, even before the first units arrived. Other residents were away from the hostel at that moment. Emergency medical teams were on standby at the scene: three evacuees underwent medical examination for suspected smoke inhalation. Fortunately, no one required hospitalization, and after consultation with a doctor, they were declared healthy.
The town community and social services showed solidarity in organizing aid for the victims. Initially, people were accommodated in a nearby parish hall, where they were provided with hot meals and essential items. Psychological support was offered to everyone facing shock after the loss of their personal property.
Building Declared Uninhabitable
The results of the inspection by building experts were discouraging: the structural damage is so extensive that the house on Weberstraße has been officially declared uninhabitable. On Saturday, employees of the Miltenberg district administration redistributed the fire victims to other accommodation sites within the district, ensuring they had a roof over their heads.
According to preliminary estimates, the economic damage from the fire is quite substantial, amounting to a six-figure sum (at least 100,000 euros). At this moment, the main task remains determining the cause of the disaster. Criminal police specialists began inspecting the ruins as soon as the temperature of the structures allowed for investigative actions. All versions are being studied—from a technical fault in the electrical wiring to the careless handling of fire—however, the investigation has not reached any final conclusions at this time.
