Schwendau/Tyrol — A routine fall and slide turned into a tragedy in an instant. In the Tyrolean Zillertal Valley, a 60-year-old German citizen sustained life-threatening injuries during a collision on the Harakiri black run. The second participant left the scene immediately after the impact. The victim was transported to a clinic in Innsbruck, where she remains in a medically induced coma.
Victim Thrown Ten Meters: Skier Left Motionless
The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 10, at approximately 11:10 AM in the Penken ski area within the municipality of Schwendau. According to law enforcement, the German citizen had stopped at the right edge of black run No. 34. At that moment, an unidentified person, who had already fallen and was sliding down the slope feet-first at high speed, collided with the woman.
The force of the impact was immense. According to police data, the woman was thrown approximately ten meters off the track into open terrain, where she remained motionless. While the slope rescue service immediately began administering first aid, the second participant fled. At this time, it is unclear who this individual was.
Harakiri: The Infamous Descent and the Search for the Culprit
The slope earned its name for a reason: Harakiri is considered one of the steepest descents in Austria and is notorious for being unforgiving of mistakes. The question of who exactly was involved in the collision and why they failed to provide assistance remains open.
The Tyrol Police have appealed to the public for assistance. Witnesses or individuals with information regarding the fleeing skier are asked to contact the Mayrhofen Police Department. Any observation could be crucial on the busy slope, where fractions of a second separate control from catastrophe.Source: tz
