Munich – As one of the most established events in Munich’s cultural calendar, the Spring Festival on Theresienwiese will open its gates once again from April 25 to May 11, 2025. Now in its 59th year, the event promises a vibrant mix of amusement rides, live entertainment, and culinary offerings. Organizers confirmed the return of classic beer tents and announced that more than 100 showmen would take part in this year’s celebration. Visitors can also look forward to two nighttime firework displays scheduled during the festival.
Opening Ceremony and Hours of Operation
This year’s festivities will officially kick off on Friday, April 25, with the traditional keg tapping at 4 p.m. in the Bayernland beer tent. Prior to that, a festive parade will begin at 2 p.m., marking the ceremonial start of the festival, often referred to as the “little sister of Oktoberfest.”
Two large beer tents will welcome guests once again: Festhalle Bayernland, operated by the Schöniger family (serving Augustiner beer), and the Hippodrom, hosted by the Krätz family (serving Spaten). Additionally, a wheat beer garden will be available on the grounds.
The City of Munich has published the following opening hours:
- Monday to Friday: 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday: 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.
The last round of beer will be served at 10:30 p.m. each evening. Discussions are already underway about possibly extending the festival duration in 2026.
Tents, Entertainment and Free Entry
Both tents will be open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., with free admission throughout the event. However, organizers advised making early reservations to secure seats in either tent, especially on peak days.
Visitors can expect a diverse entertainment lineup featuring live bands and traditional brass ensembles. At Bayernland, the program includes performances by acts such as Mickie Krause and the Esteriore Brothers, while the Hippodrom will host groups like Simmisamma and the Gigolos.
Beer Prices for 2025
Beer prices have slightly increased this year. In 2024, a liter of beer (Maß) was priced at €12.80 at Bayernland and €13.80 at the Hippodrom. For 2025, Bayernland has raised its price to €13.50. While the updated price for the Hippodrom has not yet been announced, organizers indicated that an increase is likely.
Carnival Rides, Booths and Family Specials
Outside the tents, over 100 showmen and approximately 30 rides will contribute to the traditional fairground atmosphere. Popular attractions include the Willenborg Ferris Wheel, bumper cars, and various shooting galleries. Families will also find plenty of children’s rides and food stalls offering savory and sweet treats. Discounted ride prices will be offered on family afternoons, which are held every Tuesday during the festival.
Giant BRK Flea Market on Opening Weekend
A highlight of the festival’s first weekend will be the giant flea market organized by the Bavarian Red Cross (BRK). It will take place on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. About 2,500 vendors are expected to sell their goods on an 80,000-square-meter area in front of the Bavaria statue.
Classic Car Meet and Tradition Day Among Festival Highlights
On Sunday, April 27, the Munich Automobile Club (ACM) will host its annual classic car show. Early in the morning, vintage vehicles including VW Beetles, Opel Mantas, Porsche models and American classics will be on display at the southern section of the festival grounds.
One week later, on Sunday, May 4, the festival will hold its “Tradition Day,” featuring a procession of Bavarian cultural groups, horse-drawn wagons and the iconic Münchner Kindl. Traditional music, whip performances (Goaßlschnalzer) and folk dances (Schuhplattler) will entertain the crowd both along the procession route and inside the tents.
Firework Displays on May 2 and May 9
Two firework displays are scheduled during the festival. These will take place at 10:00 p.m. in the southern part of the grounds on the following dates:
- Friday, May 2, 2025: Brilliant Fireworks Show
- Friday, May 9, 2025: Musical Fireworks Performance
