Schedule for the IAA in Munich Set – Important Information for Visitors

The event will run from September 9 to September 14, with locations at both the exhibition grounds in Riem and various venues throughout Munich’s city center. Visitors can expect an extensive and diverse program.

Munich – The IAA returns to the Bavarian capital. The event presents itself not merely as a traditional exhibition but as much more. “A genuine place of participation, where people can come together on equal footing, try new things, engage in conversation, and shape mobility together,” is how VDA Managing Director Jürgen Mindel describes the concept. The association is organizing the event in cooperation with Messe München.

To fulfill this ambition, the event is once again divided into two main sections: At the exhibition grounds in Riem, the ticketed IAA Summit will take place from September 9 to 12, primarily targeting industry professionals. More than 500 top-level speakers from different fields are scheduled to give presentations on five different stages.

At the same time, Munich’s city center will once again be transformed into a vast exhibition area. The free “Open Space” will be available from September 9 to 14. Visitors will not only be able to view vehicles and innovations but also test and experience them directly. “This September, we will see the largest and most impressive Open Space to date,” emphasizes Christian Vorländer, Head of Mobility at Messe München.

Test Drives

As in previous years, test drives will be a central element of the exhibition. This year, 231 vehicles will be available – representing a 27 percent increase compared to the last IAA. Visitors will be able to start their test drives at various manufacturer stands, including those located at Wittelsbacherplatz, Odeonsplatz, Königsplatz, Max-Joseph-Platz, the courtyards of the Residenz, and on Ludwigstraße. Major brands such as Mercedes-Benz (at the Residenz), Porsche and Audi (Wittelsbacherplatz), Volkswagen, and Ford (Odeonsplatz) will present their latest models.

In addition, 15 exhibitors with a total of 25 vehicles will demonstrate what autonomous driving feels like. Manufacturers aim to provide a glimpse into the future of self-driving cars. For this purpose, a dedicated operational area will be established on the A94 highway, where companies such as Mercedes-Benz (departing from the Open Space) will showcase the new technology. The A94 will remain fully open to regular traffic throughout the entire event.

Cycling Area

For cycling enthusiasts, the northern part of Ludwigstraße will feature the so-called “Cycling Area.” From there, a nearly four-kilometer test track will lead through the English Garden, allowing guests to try out new bicycle and e-bike models. Additionally, Ludwigstraße will host a special course designed to simulate real-life traffic situations, complete with ramps and curbs. Repair stations will also be available, along with spectacular stunt shows performed by professional BMX riders.

Culture and Dialogue Program

In addition to mobility, the IAA will also offer a wide-ranging cultural and dialogue program. In front of the Siegestor, a stage will host performances by young musicians. A highlight will be the premiere of the “Festival of Lights”, which is coming to Munich for the first time. From September 9 to 13, between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. each evening, major landmarks such as the Bavarian State Library, the Old Town Hall, and the Residenz will be illuminated with elaborate light installations.

The program also includes family-oriented activities. A children’s adventure course will stretch across the exhibition grounds, where younger visitors can explore mobility through playful, hands-on activities. Furthermore, Marienplatz will be transformed into the “IAA Citizens Lab”, where citizens will have the opportunity to engage directly with experts and company representatives in dialogue sessions.

Prominent Guests

The exhibition will once again host numerous high-profile guests. For example, multiple Formula 1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel will make appearances both at the Summit and in the city center on the opening day. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) has also confirmed his attendance at the IAA.

Protest Actions

As was the case two years ago, protests are again being organized in opposition to the mobility event. Critics of the exhibition will set up a protest camp in Luitpoldpark, with around 500 participants registered. The camp will feature workshops, lectures, and music events. In addition, several large-scale demonstrations are planned: On Saturday, September 13, starting at 12 p.m., BUND Naturschutz will organize a cycling demonstration. Up to 200 participants plan to ride from Luitpoldpark to Karolinenplatz to voice their opposition to the IAA.

Opening Hours

The IAA Open Space will be open to the public from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on all event days. On Sunday, September 14, adjusted hours will apply, with the event running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Exhibitor evening events in the Open Space will be permitted until no later than 11 p.m.
