MVV to Increase Fares at the Turn of the Year 2026

In 2026, MVV (Munich Transport and Tariff Association) will increase its fares by an average of 3.9 percent.

While some tickets will become more expensive, passengers in certain zones will benefit from cheaper single tickets. Furthermore, the network area will be expanded.

The Munich Transport and Tariff Association (MVV) will raise its fares on January 1, 2026. As the MVV announced following a meeting of its shareholders at Munich City Hall, tariffs will increase by an average of 3.9 percent.

Details of the MVV Fare Increases

Key changes to the cash fare include an increase in the price of a single ticket for Zone M or Zone 1 from €4.10 to €4.20. The short-trip ticket will rise from €2.00 to €2.10, and the child ticket from €1.90 to €2.00. The strip ticket (Streifenkarte) will cost €18.70 instead of €17.80. Group and day tickets will also increase, as will the single-day ticket for Zone M or Zone 1, which will now cost €10.10.

According to the MVV, weekly and monthly passes will also see price hikes: weekly passes will become more expensive by an average of just over six percent, monthly passes by around four and a half percent. For example, the price of a monthly pass for Zone M will rise from €68.40 to €71.40. Subscriptions will now only be offered on a monthly payment basis.

Single Journeys in MVV Zones 2 – 12 Will Become Cheaper

However, the prices for the monthly pass S (the social ticket) will remain unchanged. The €365 annual ticket for pupils, students, and apprentices will also remain the same price. Additionally, a new provision for free child accompaniment with a single-day ticket will be introduced. Furthermore, the MVV states that for passengers from zones 2 to 12, the prices for travel within a single zone will decrease: instead of previously requiring two strips on the strip ticket, only one strip will be needed. Single tickets and day tickets for travel within one zone will also become cheaper.

MVV Network Area to Expand

At the turn of the year, the network area will also be expanded. The MVV will then include the districts of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Mühldorf am Inn, and Landshut, as well as the city of Landshut. This means that from 2026, uniform tariffs will apply in these regions as well. Passengers will then be able to travel with one ticket from Munich to Landshut or Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

The MVV will publish further information on the new prices and transitional arrangements on its website in the coming days.
