However, in August, the arrival center and short-term accommodation facility were closed. Last week, the new location at Garmischer Straße 2–12 opened, now serving as the first point of contact for all asylum seekers arriving in the Upper Bavaria administrative district. Nevertheless, refugees will soon be housed again at Lotte-Branz-Straße 2, the government of Upper Bavaria confirmed in response to an inquiry from Hallo. The building is currently being renovated.
According to Wolfgang Rupp, spokesperson for the government of Upper Bavaria, the plan is for the building to be used as an ANKER satellite facility—a branch of a center for “Arrival, Decision, and Return”—once the work is completed. “Based on current planning, the first new residents are expected to move in at the beginning of October 2025.” The renovated existing building will provide 300 beds. A new building is also planned to complement the complex, adding another 200 beds. The completion date for the new building has not yet been finalized. While the work is ongoing, Rupp is unable to provide final cost estimates.
Rupp stated that the facility at Lotte-Branz-Straße “will thus help further relieve the district offices and independent cities in accommodating refugees.” Thanks to the increased capacity of the ANKER facilities, “transfers to subsequent accommodation facilities will no longer need to happen as quickly.” Meanwhile, the arrival center on Maria-Probst-Straße will be dismantled. “Demolition will begin shortly.”
