On Wednesday, the Munich Public Utilities (SWM) officially confirmed that holiday celebrations will not serve as a barrier for those maintaining an active lifestyle. According to the organization’s stance, fitness maintenance and wellness procedures should remain accessible to citizens even during long public holidays, providing quality leisure and a refreshing change of scenery within the city limits.
On Good Friday, April 3, and Easter Monday, April 6, most of Munich’s indoor complexes and saunas will continue to welcome visitors as usual. SWM clarified that on these dates, facilities will adhere to their standard operating hours designated for Friday and Monday, respectively.
A crucial detail for spa and thermal wellness enthusiasts is the traditional sauna attendance policy: on these public holidays, as on all official holidays throughout the year, only mixed-gender sessions (Mixed Sauna) are provided. The same standard schedule will remain in effect for Easter Sunday itself, April 5, allowing families to plan their holiday visits in advance.
Currently, Munich’s municipal services manage nine modern indoor complexes; however, when planning a visit, one should consider the ongoing large-scale modernization program of the city’s network. Specifically, the Forstenrieder Park complex was decommissioned back in April 2025; by mid-2026, the facility will be completely dismantled to clear the site for a brand-new, high-tech aquatic center that meets the most stringent ecological standards. Additionally, the popular Westbad will close for several months starting April 27 for scheduled technical maintenance, a key factor for regular visitors to consider when choosing an alternative training location.
Almost all municipal indoor pools, with the exception of the specialized Giesing-Harlaching facility, feature their own spacious sauna areas. Further relaxation opportunities are offered by Dantebad, located in the Gern district.
This unique complex with heated outdoor pools will offer guests two saunas and a steam bath, making it a highly sought-after option for open-air relaxation even under changeable spring weather conditions. Consequently, despite temporary changes in the operation of certain facilities, the city maintains sufficient capacity to meet the demands of all those who value premium aquatic recreation.
