The state-of-the-art complex serves as a consolidating space, bringing together previously dispersed departments under one roof and offering employees advanced infrastructural solutions that meet global standards for labour organisation in the technology sector.
The building on Anni-Albers-Straße, distinguished by its sleek dark glass façade, blends harmoniously into the architectural ensemble of the northern part of the city, standing alongside other futuristic structures in “Parkstadt Schwabing”. On Thursday, 16 April, a ceremonial opening took place for this large-scale hub, situated in close proximity to key transport links, including Münchner Freiheit.
Currently, 2,500 specialists are concentrated within the 45,000-square-metre facility. The architectural concept of the six-level building is designed to stimulate interdisciplinary interaction: for the first time, Alexa development teams, Prime Video producers, and Amazon Music curators are working within a unified space. Interior solutions featuring panoramic glazing and glass partitions ensure visual connectivity between work areas, the atrium, and the external grounds of the complex. The central atrium, with a capacity for 600 people, transforms during the day into a high-tech space for dining and informal communication.
The workspaces are designed according to a ring-layout principle, where individual workstations are connected by a common communication corridor. Internal company policy permits the presence of pets in the office, with dog beds provided in designated areas. Corporate culture is also reflected in the interior details: the Prime Video department features figures of famous cinematic characters, while in meeting rooms, one chair always remains unoccupied. This chair holds a cushion labelled “Customer”—a symbolic gesture serving as a constant reminder of the need to prioritise consumer interests in all strategic decision-making.
Eleven Roof Terraces and Prayer Rooms
The infrastructure of the new facility in Schwabing demonstrates a comprehensive approach to employee well-being. The project includes eleven roof terraces for outdoor relaxation, specialised rooms for prayer, and breastfeeding rooms. For the specific needs of the Prime Video division, a private cinema has been installed, and three beehives have been placed in the inner courtyards, highlighting the company’s environmental focus and allowing for local honey production.
Particular attention has been paid to integrating the global brand into the local cultural context. Meeting rooms across all floors have been named after iconic Munich locations. The list includes the names of famous Oktoberfest tents, such as Hofbräu, Hacker, and Käfer, as well as historical city districts like Schwanthalerhöhe, Schwabing, and Lehel.
During the ceremony, Munich’s future Lord Mayor, Dominik Krause (Green Party), emphasised the strategic significance of the event. He noted that Munich is rightfully considered the economic heart of Bavaria and the country’s technological capital, adding that the city’s long-standing cooperation with Amazon is a success story that contributes to strengthening the region’s innovative potential.
The opening of a unified headquarters solidifies Munich’s status as a key European centre for the digital economy. The concentration of leading specialists in a single building will allow the company to optimise internal processes, while the city reaffirms its reputation as the most attractive location for global technology giants in 2026.
