The apartment complexes at Wiesentfelser Straße 72 and 74, built in the 1960s, house a total of 108 units. The surrounding open space covers approximately 11,700 square meters and is in urgent need of improvement. Key goals include enhancing the quality of public areas, adapting to climate change, improving accessibility, and encouraging sustainable local mobility.
Site Design Plans Underway
As part of an inspection of the Aubing-Neuaubing-Westkreuz redevelopment zone, the Munich Urban Renewal Corporation (MGS) announced it has launched a tendering process for the redesign of the outdoor spaces. Planned features include playgrounds for children, public seating areas—with special attention to the needs of the elderly in the neighborhood—and quiet zones for relaxation. Two bicycle shelters with green roofs are also part of the proposal.
Focus on Greenery and Biodiversity
Another priority of the project is to enhance green space using low-maintenance planting schemes that promote biodiversity. While an energy-efficient renovation of the buildings was initially considered, the proposal was ultimately rejected by residents.
With its emphasis on inclusivity, sustainability, and community well-being, the planned transformation of Wiesentfelser Straße marks a key step in improving urban life in one of Munich’s older residential neighborhoods.
