The stadium will hold approximately 6,500 spectators and is intended to elevate Munich’s profile as a host of high-level international ATP tournaments.
The initiative comes on the heels of a milestone victory for German tennis star Alexander Zverev, who won the BMW Open in April. This year’s tournament, held for the first time as an ATP 500 event, marks a significant upgrade in the event’s status. Zverev’s win over American Ben Shelton on April 20 added further prestige to the tournament and highlighted the potential for Munich to become a key venue on the global tennis circuit.
Public Consultation Begins on Stadium Design
To involve residents in the development process, the Munich city administration has scheduled a public information session for Thursday evening. Locals are invited to attend the event at the Neufreimann Gymnasium between 7:00 and 8:30 p.m., where planning drafts will be presented and questions addressed. Admission is free and no registration is required.
The new stadium is planned for the southern section of the Iphitos Club grounds along Aumeisterweg. From the outset, the city has emphasized that environmental sustainability and visual integration with the surrounding landscape—particularly the nearby English Garden—are top priorities. The design aims to preserve existing trees and maintain a natural appearance that respects the area’s character.
Digital Participation and Transparent Planning
Residents can review detailed plans online via the “Bauleitplanung Online München” platform until June 5, where they can also submit feedback and suggestions. Printed materials are additionally available for public viewing in various city offices. All input will be reviewed and considered as part of the ongoing planning process, ensuring citizens have a meaningful role in shaping the project.
Strengthening Munich’s Role in International Tennis
The proposed stadium marks a new chapter for the sport in Munich. As the city moves to secure its position in the international tennis calendar, officials hope the new venue will attract top-tier tournaments and global talent. By combining sports development with civic engagement, the project aims to balance athletic ambition with public responsibility.
Through this initiative, Munich seeks not only to enhance its sports infrastructure but also to strengthen its identity as a dynamic and inclusive sports city—anchored by the involvement of its residents in shaping its future.
