According to SWM (Stadtwerke München), these barriers are intended to protect passengers on tram lines 16 and 17 heading towards Romanplatz.
In early May, a 52-year-old resident of the Miesbach district collided with a light truck in his BMW and subsequently crashed into the stop, resulting in two fatalities. A 22-year-old student died six days after the incident from a severe traumatic brain injury. Ten days later, a 79-year-old woman, who also sustained a severe head injury, died in the hospital.
The most recent incident occurred on November 7th, when a truck changing lanes on Arnulfstraße collided with a young woman’s Volkswagen Golf. The impact spun the car around, causing it to crash into the waiting shelter of the local tram stop. This accident had no serious consequences; the 23-year-old driver sustained minor injuries and did not require medical assistance.
According to a statement from the municipal utilities, the concrete barriers at the Donnersbergerbrücke stop are only a temporary solution. The installation of protective bollards is planned as a permanent safety measure. Negotiations with manufacturers are currently underway, and the project is to be implemented as soon as possible.
