Many music and culture lovers from Munich and the region have likely already read reports about the financial problems of München Ticket. Although, according to a report by the Münchner Merkur, the company’s operations will be secured through a million-euro subsidy from the city, the situation is likely to remain difficult in the long term, as follows from an SZ article that first reported the issue. But even if the threat of immediate bankruptcy is not currently being discussed, questions arise — in particular, what risks insolvency of the seller poses for buyers. Answers are provided by, among others, the Bavarian Consumer Protection Association.
What is München Ticket?
The company specializes in the sale of admission tickets. The assortment includes not only tickets for shows by world stars at the city’s largest venues (such as the temporarily closed Olympic Stadium) but also for small concerts. On the platform, one can purchase tickets for a wide variety of cultural events: from musicals and theaters to magic shows and museums. The enterprise was founded in 1993. The current crisis, according to the SZ report, arose due to the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic and the fact that major organizers are increasingly selling tickets independently.
Does ticket sales through München Ticket continue?
The difficult situation in which the enterprise found itself is in no way reflected on its website. Tickets for many events in 2026 are still available, and dates for 2027 have already been entered for which seats can be booked. On Instagram, the service also habitually announces upcoming events and gives recommendations.
Are there alternatives to München Ticket?
Competitors of the service include numerous private ticket distributors such as Eventim or Myticket.de. There are also smaller suppliers, for example, München Musik. In addition, depending on the event, there is often the opportunity to purchase tickets directly from the organizer or in the traditional way at the evening box office.
Will all purchased tickets remain valid?
In a normal situation, customers should not worry if the company from which they purchased tickets declares bankruptcy. A representative of the Bavarian Consumer Protection Association informed our editorial office that the tickets remain valid, as the event itself is not affected. An exception is cases where the ticket seller is also the organizer.
Another special case arises if tickets have already been paid for but not delivered due to the company’s insolvency. According to the representative of the agency, customers can file their claims for a refund of the purchase price in the insolvency register after the opening of bankruptcy proceedings. However, there is a high probability that in this case, they will receive only a small fraction of the cost. Therefore, in a situation where bankruptcy is already being discussed, experts advise making purchases by invoice with subsequent payment.
