The performance marks a major comeback for the ensemble, which last performed at Theresienwiese in 2020 with the show TOTEM. That run was cut short by the pandemic, forcing an early closure just two weeks before its scheduled end. Subsequent Munich appearances, including the show Kurios, were held indoors at the Olympiahalle. Now, Alegría will herald the return of Cirque du Soleil’s iconic big top tent to its traditional location on the festival grounds.
Audiences can look forward to up to three performances per day on select dates, ensuring wide access to the production. Each show runs approximately 125 minutes, including a 25-minute intermission. Tickets go on sale Friday, May 9 at 10 a.m., with early online access available to registered members. Children aged two and up require their own ticket.
Alegría, first staged in 1994, is one of Cirque du Soleil’s most celebrated productions. The updated version tells the story of a fictional kingdom descending into disorder following the death of its monarch. While the entrenched ruling class clings to tradition, a younger generation rises up in search of change. The narrative unfolds through a mesmerizing blend of acrobatics, live music, and striking visual effects.
The tent will be located at Theresienwiese, 80339 Munich, with public transport the recommended mode of travel. Visitors can reach the venue easily via U-Bahn lines U4 or U5 to “Theresienwiese,” or via U3/U6 to “Poccistraße,” a five-minute walk from the grounds. S-Bahn users can exit at “Hackerbrücke” and walk ten minutes to the site. Numerous tram and bus lines also serve the area.
This revival of Alegría on its original open-air stage promises a powerful blend of nostalgia and innovation, inviting audiences old and new to witness the magic of Cirque du Soleil.
