Public Transport in Munich Affected by Klassik am Odeonsplatz Concerts

Due to this year’s open-air concert series Klassik am Odeonsplatz 2025, passengers in Munich will need to prepare for changes to bus services in the city over the coming weekend.

Several lines in the public transport network will be impacted. The reason for these disruptions is the staging of the long-established classical music concerts in the historic center of Munich.

Major Open-Air Concerts in Front of the Feldherrnhalle

On Saturday, July 12, and Sunday, July 13, the popular music festival Klassik am Odeonsplatz will once again take place on the square of the same name in Munich’s Old Town. The Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Munich Philharmonic will perform, accompanied by internationally renowned soloists. This year, audiences can look forward to appearances by the world-famous pianist Daniil Trifonov and the highly acclaimed violinist Lisa Batiashvili, among others.

MVG Announces Service Disruptions Across Several Lines

As part of the extensive preparations and safety measures surrounding the concerts, the Munich Transport Company (MVG) has announced significant service restrictions for bus traffic in the city center. These changes will already take effect on Friday evening, July 11, starting at 7:30 p.m., and will continue on Saturday beginning at 12:00 p.m., remaining in place until the end of Sunday, July 13.

Details Regarding the Affected Bus Lines

  • Line 100 (Museum Line)

The Odeonsplatz stop will not be served in either direction during the affected period. Additionally, in the direction of Ostbahnhof, the Von-der-Tann-Straße stop will be temporarily relocated. During the diversion, it will be situated on the street bearing the same name.

  • Line 153

This line will begin and end its route at the Universität stop during the period of disruption. The regular stops at Von-der-Tann-Straße and Odeonsplatz will not be served at all.

  • NightBus Lines N40, N41, and N45

In the night from Sunday, July 13, to Monday, July 14, these night buses will not stop at Odeonsplatz or Von-der-Tann-Straße while heading toward Karlsplatz (Stachus). In the opposite direction, heading toward Universität, the buses will make a substitute stop at Oskar-von-Miller-Ring, which is normally served by Line 58.

Concerts Will Proceed Despite Renovation Work at the Feldherrnhalle

This year’s open-air concerts will take place despite ongoing renovation work at the historic Feldherrnhalle, which will be fully scaffolded during the concert weekend. The City of Munich has announced that the iconic structure will be symbolically depicted through a stage construction featuring arches in order to preserve the familiar appearance of the concert venue.

Reduced Audience Capacity but Broadcasts Are Planned

Due to the construction work, the capacity for live audiences had to be significantly reduced. Instead of the usual 16,000 attendees, only around 7,000 guests will be able to attend each concert evening in person. The event is already completely sold out.

However, those who were unable to secure a ticket will still have the opportunity to enjoy the performances. Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) and the television channel 3sat will broadcast the concerts on television. In addition, BR-Klassik will air the musical performances on the radio.
