After an attack by two men on a German soldier in Upper Palatinate, the state security division of the police is now investigating. Two men allegedly spoke to the uniformed 19-year-old in Russian as he was getting into his car to drive to work in Sulzbach-Rosenberg, police said. The young soldier did not respond and got into his vehicle.
One of the two men then reportedly ripped the driver’s door open and attacked the 19-year-old. The second attacker deliberately kicked the soldier in the chest. Only after this was the 19-year-old able to lock himself in his car, and the two attackers fled.
According to the police, the soldier sustained minor injuries in the attack and did not need to be taken to a hospital.
A police spokesperson said investigators suspect that the motive for the attack is related to Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine. The spokesperson did not provide further details. The State Security division of the Amberg Criminal Police is handling the investigation. Police are also looking for witnesses to the incident, which occurred on Tuesday morning.
