Freimann – Construction activity still dominates the area around the new Neufreimann Gymnasium. Between barriers and debris, construction vehicles are moving along the roadside while workers bustle across the schoolyard. A sign on Henny-Seidemann-Straße already directs students to the school. One path has been paved but remains closed.
When the new school opens for the 2025–2026 school year on Tuesday, September 16, students coming from the south and east are supposed to use a shared pedestrian and bike path. For now, however, they must take an alternative route: the planned path will not be completed in time for the school opening, according to the city’s planning office.
Foot and Bike Path Still Under Construction
The shared path was requested by the Schwabing-Freimann district committee and is meant to connect directly from Cordelia-Edvardson-Straße in the southeast of the new Neufreimann quarter to the school. Students would then enter the school grounds from the south side.
Temporarily, students coming from the east will need to turn north from Cordelia-Edvardson-Straße and continue via Friederike-Nadig-Allee to reach the school. “Most of the paths have been laid,” a planning office spokesperson told Hallo. The pedestrian and bike path is expected to be completed “in autumn.”
The last 250 meters of the route still pose a problem, according to district committee chairman Patric Wolf (CSU). Along Friederike-Nadig-Allee, students still have to navigate around construction fences, and some construction vehicles remain in place. “It’s not safe,” Wolf emphasized at the local committee meeting. Earlier in the summer, a driver responsible for transporting children to the Schulförderzentrum Nord-West had already criticized the dangerous route in the new development area.
School principal Verena Keller also described the situation as suboptimal. “We have to do everything possible to finish the path as quickly as we can,” she said. She added that improvements could still be made before the school opens, but for now, she cannot imagine how students from the south and east will safely reach the school in two weeks.
