A new center for AI chips is planned to be established in Munich.
Partnership with Taiwan to Strengthen the Chip Industry
The Bavarian state government is working with Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC, which recently opened its own design center in Munich. TSMC is the global leader in the semiconductor sector, holding roughly two-thirds of the market share.
“Through our collaboration with TSMC, we have the opportunity to train Bavarian talent on the world’s most advanced chip technologies,” said Science Minister Markus Blume (CSU). To set up the new center, the Ministry of Science and the Ministry of Economic Affairs are jointly providing nearly €4.5 million in funding.
Project Leadership by Professor Hussan Amrouch
The center will be led by TUM professor Hussan Amrouch, who specializes in AI chip design. Key priorities in chip development include optimizing power consumption and achieving high computing performance.
Economic Affairs Minister Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters) expressed confidence that the new center will help close the talent gap in chip technology across Europe.
