Munich/Schwabing – A city project has already drawn attention from local residents: sidewalks and bike lanes along Rheinstraße are being widened. In addition, the city is installing dedicated waiting areas on both sides of the street for cyclists turning left.
The aim is to make intersections safer, especially for children using Rheinstraße on their way to school. However, this also means the loss of several parking spaces. Many residents voiced their frustration when construction first began.
City officials are aware that parking will become more difficult for locals on Rheinstraße. To ease the pressure, the city’s Mobility Department (MOR) presented a new plan to the Schwabing-Freimann district committee.
On Mainzer Straße, between Rhein- and Hörwarthstraße, parking will soon be reserved exclusively for residents. The rule will apply on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. From then on, only drivers with a parking permit for the Kölner Platz zone will be allowed to park there. The district committee approved the measure unanimously, and signs are expected to be installed by the end of September.
