As a result, significant delays are expected on the S2 line for the start of the school year.
As Deutsche Bahn announced in a press release, the S-Bahn line 2 between Nürnberg-Ostring and Hartmannshof is currently only passable with severe restrictions—a situation that is expected to last at least until the start of school on Tuesday. The company cites last-minute delays at the construction site between Nürnberg-Ostring and Röthenbach an der Pegnitz as the reason.
Its subsidiary DB InfraGO has been carrying out “extensive construction work” there in recent weeks to implement accessibility measures. Originally, rail traffic was planned to resume on Monday. However, additional inspections are still required before the line can be fully reopened for traffic. Consequently, service on the eastern branch of the S2 line is currently severely limited.
Specifically affected are the stations: Nürnberg-Ostring, Mögeldorf, Rehhof, Laufamholz, Schwaig, Röthenbach, Röthenbach-Steinberg, Röthenbach-Seespitze, Lauf West, Lauf (links der Pegnitz), Ottensoos, Henfenfeld, Hersbruck (links der Pegnitz), Happurg, Pommelsbrunn, and Hartmannshof. Deutsche Bahn intends—”according to the current status”—to set up a replacement concept using individual trains, buses, and taxis for passengers. Students and all other passengers are asked to “use other travel options if possible.”
