Two-week restrictions introduced on Munich’s S-Bahn central line due to track repairs

Train traffic on the central line (Stammstrecke) will be restricted from Tuesday evening, March 31, until Monday morning, April 13. During the Easter holidays, the replacement of switches and infrastructure preparation for the second central line will be started by railway workers at the Isartor station.

Munich — Restrictions will come into effect at 22:40 on March 31 and will last until 04:40 on April 13. The main volume of work is planned for Isartor station, where four switches will be replaced. During this period, only the S7 line will operate in normal mode.

Changes in traffic patterns and route terminuses

Due to the modernization of the signaling system, the passage of trains deeper into the tunnel will be ensured this time. Lines S2 and S3 will reach Karlsplatz (Stachus) station. Line S1 will run to the Main Station without stopping at Hackerbrücke. Routes S4 and S8 will terminate at Pasing station, and S6 at Heimeranplatz. On the eastern side, S2 and S8 trains will be limited to Ostbahnhof, S5 will reach Giesing, and S6 will reach Trudering.

Alternative routes and additional works

The launch of replacement buses is not planned, as transfers to the subway are possible at key stations. Passengers are advised to use regional trains between Pasing and the Main Station. In addition to replacing sleepers at Isartor, the technical window will be used for the second central line project. Until the morning of April 15, trains will pass through Isartor and Rosenheimer Platz stations without stopping.

Restrictions on the Munich Airport line

Immediately after traffic is restored on the central line, work on the airport direction will be started. From 22:10 on April 13 until 05:00 on April 17, the operation of trains to the terminals will be suspended. Buses will be deployed on sections from Neufahrn (S1), Ismaning (S8), and Freising (RE22) to the airport.
