The Munich Mobility Department Organizes a Series of Events to Support Bicycle Movement in the Schwabing-West District

The municipal authorities of the Bavarian capital continue the systematic implementation of a long-term strategy for the development of an ecologically clean urban environment and the popularization of alternative types of transport. Within the framework of a special program, technical checks of bicycles, practical lessons in workshops, and a thematic holiday will take place in the Schwabing-West district.

This social-ecological project is aimed at the integration of modern standards of micromobility into the everyday life of the citizens. Residents will be able to prepare their transport for safe operation free of charge and take part in an excursion, which will allow to increase the general level of safety on public roads and strengthen good-neighborly ties within the local community.

In July, a series of profile events under the motto “More Bicycles in the Quarter” will make a stop in the Schwabing-West district, which traditionally demonstrates a high density of two-wheeled transport use.

The program will officially open on July 2 with a free check of the technical parameters of bicycles, which will take place from 12:00 to 18:00 on Elisabethplatz square. In the course of this public action, owners of two-wheeled transport will be able to test their bicycles for compliance with strict requirements of road traffic safety and immediately eliminate minor operational malfunctions.

The comprehensive service includes a professional adjustment of brake systems and the position of the saddle, as well as mandatory control of the working order of night lighting devices, the presence of passive reflectors, and the pressure level in the tires. Additionally, specialists will help to pump up the wheels of children’s and wheelchairs, ensuring the inclusiveness of the urban environment.

Residents of the Schwabing-West District Will Be Offered Free Workshop Services, a Technical Inspection, and Participation in a Bicycle Holiday

The logical continuation of the comprehensive program will be the work of a mobile bike workshop, which will open on July 8 on Bayernplatz square. Visitors will be able to independently work with the equipment and, under the guidance of experts, learn to maintain the sound condition of their bicycles, as well as to promptly eliminate small mechanical damages. All necessary tools and consumables will be provided directly on the spot by the organizers, and two qualified specialists will consult the participants throughout the entire time of operation.

Both specified events will take place in a fixed period from 12:00 to 18:00. In addition, from June 30, registration will open for an excursion bicycle ride accompanied by a guide, which will begin on July 14 at 16:00 and will last about two and a half hours, covering the key green zones of the district.

A Bicycle Holiday on Hohenzollernplatz Square Will Complete the Series of Thematic Events

The main event of the program will become the “bicycle holiday in the neighborhood,” planned for July 23 from 12:00 to 18:00 on Hohenzollernplatz square. Within the framework of this day, citizens will be able to obtain topical information about bicycle paths and specialized bicycle streets in the district, as well as check their knowledge of traffic rules in a thematic quiz. At the venue, they will also organize a point for technical inspection of transport for all who wish. The program will be supplemented by an information stand of the department for climate and environmental protection: visitors will be able to try out an educational climate pinball, win commemorative prizes, and learn about the measures adopted by the municipality in the field of climate protection and reducing the carbon footprint.

Registration for the Bicycle Excursion Will Open at the End of June

According to the official announcement of the organizers, the excursion bicycle ride accompanied by a guide, slated for July 14, will allow the participants to see new corners, architectural sights, and habitual city objects from an unusual perspective. An experienced guide will accompany the group throughout the entire route across the territory of the city district, drawing attention to the specifics of the development of the local transport infrastructure.

Similar initiatives of the Munich Mobility Department demonstrate a systemic approach to the reformatting of the urban space in favor of ecologically clean methods of movement. The creation of conditions for free technical maintenance and expert consulting of citizens allows not only to reduce the accident rate but also motivates the residents of Schwabing-West to more frequently give up the use of personal automobiles within the limits of the megacity.
