Munich’s main S-Bahn line will again be largely closed this weekend. From Saturday at 4:00 AM until Monday at 4:30 AM, only one S-Bahn line will be operating on this section. The S2 line from the west will run at least as far as Isartor. The first disruptions could occur as early as Friday evening from 10:20 PM, Deutsche Bahn reported.
The other S-Bahn lines, depending on their route from the western direction, will terminate at Hauptbahnhof (Main Station), Heimeranplatz, or Pasing. From the eastern direction, trains will only run as far as Trudering, Giesing, or Ostbahnhof (East Station).
Railway Organizes Replacement Bus Services
Passengers heading to the city center can use replacement buses between Trudering and Ostbahnhof. From Giesing and Heimeranplatz, it is recommended to transfer to the U-Bahn (subway).
Deutsche Bahn attributed the restrictions to track maintenance work and cable laying. At Ostbahnhof, the ground is also being checked for possible unexploded ordnance from World War II. Construction work for the second main S-Bahn line is also taking place there in parallel.
The main line is regularly closed on weekends for maintenance work. During the autumn holidays, schedule changes had already affected almost all lines of the Munich S-Bahn. The section between Pasing and Donnersbergerbrücke was temporarily closed. According to the railway, similar restrictions to those this weekend are expected for passengers on the first and second weekends of Advent.
