An emergency bridge, flood protection measures, and a water pipe overhaul: a series of construction projects have been planned for Lake Tegernsee. Repairs to the bridge over the Alpbach stream in Tegernsee are set to last from May to November 2026. As reported by Merkur, the Lake Festival at the end of July will not take place as a result. The reconstruction was deemed essential after an inspection in 2025 revealed serious damage. “Primarily, the bridge deck, which protects the structure, has deteriorated,” explained the technical department of the city administration.
Construction to Block Essential Detour Routes
Simultaneously with the bridge repairs, authorities decided to upgrade the storm flood protection system and the water pipes. Consequently, the detour via Hochfeldstraße and Bahnhofstraße will be inaccessible during construction. This circumstance has made it impossible to hold the Lake Festival on July 28; therefore, organizers in the Tegernsee Valley have decided to cancel the event.
Furthermore, residents and visitors must prepare for significant changes in traffic patterns. Those wishing to reach Rottach-Egern will need to travel via Bad Wiessee. Nevertheless, visitors still have the opportunity to attend other festivities: during the summer, several traditional festivals are held around Lake Tegernsee, hosted in turn by different municipalities.
Forest and Lake Festivals Scheduled for the Summer Period
For instance, a forest festival is scheduled for June 12 and 13 in Kreuth, with another event set for the following weekend in Bad Wiessee. Celebrations are also planned throughout July and August in Bad Wiessee, Rottach, Kreuth, and Tegernsee. However, there is currently no final certainty as to whether these events might also be impacted by the ongoing construction work.
