57-year-old woman forgot her disabled daughter at the railway station – police helped

A 57-year-old woman briefly lost sight of her severely disabled daughter at Nuremberg Central Station in early November and boarded an ICE train without her. This sparked a real odyssey that ultimately ended happily, thanks to the Federal Police.

Nuremberg – A 57-year-old woman from Brazil likely experienced tremendous fright on November 6th when she boarded an ICE train at Nuremberg Central Station, leaving her severely disabled daughter behind on the platform. As the Federal Police have now reported, the mother was on track 6 around 9:30 AM with her two daughters, and all three were supposed to board the ICE train to Würzburg together.

After the train departed, the woman realized her 26-year-old daughter had been left alone on the platform. “However, due to her severe disability, she is dependent on assistance from her family members,” explained a Federal Police spokesperson. When the 57-year-old woman arrived in Würzburg, she immediately took the next train back to Nuremberg – but by then, there was no trace of her daughter.

Multi-Hour Odyssey to Berlin and Back

The mother then notified the Federal Police and asked the officers for help. Using video footage, they were able to reconstruct the events: the helpless 26-year-old woman waited in the platform area for about another 30 minutes before boarding an ICE train to Berlin. Officers from Franconia immediately informed their colleagues in the capital about the situation. Shortly after, a patrol was able to locate the 26-year-old woman in the concourse of Berlin Central Station.

“Federal Police officers from Nuremberg and Berlin organized the woman’s return to Nuremberg as quickly as possible. Accompanied by a railway employee, the severely disabled young woman traveled the approximately 400 kilometers back on an ICE Sprinter train,” the Federal Police further reported. Around 9:00 PM – nearly twelve hours after the mother and daughter were separated – the family was able to reunite and continue their journey together.
