Driver Escapes Unharmed as Truck Bursts Into Flames
According to police reports, the truck was traveling near Schondra in the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen when one of its tires suddenly burst. Shortly after, the driver noticed flames coming from the vehicle. Acting quickly, he steered the truck onto the shoulder and exited safely before the fire intensified.
Vehicle and Mail Cargo Completely Destroyed
The fire rapidly engulfed the entire vehicle and its contents, reducing both the truck and its cargo of postal packages to ash. Firefighters battled the blaze for over three hours. Thick smoke billowing across the highway forced the temporary closure of the A7 in both directions, severely affecting traffic flow.
Traffic Disruptions Extend Into Morning Hours
Northbound traffic toward Kassel was limited to a single lane until morning, leading to substantial congestion. The situation was further complicated by a secondary incident: a 53-year-old driver, approaching the end of the traffic jam, swerved onto the shoulder to avoid a collision and crashed into a guardrail. Fortunately, he was not injured.

Authorities are still investigating the exact cause of the fire. Initial evidence suggests that the tire blowout may have sparked the blaze, potentially triggering a fire in the truck’s mechanical systems or among the mail cargo.
