The Verdi union has announced a new transport strike in Munich without specifying an exact date

The Verdi union continues to carry out strikes in the public transport sector of Bavaria. Another wave of protests is also expected in Munich.

Munich — will subway trains and buses in Munich soon stop again? The Verdi union is continuing its strike activity in the public transport sector of Bavaria. Haris Softic from Verdi, in response to an inquiry from the publication tz, did not comment on rumors that MVG strikes could start again in Munich next week.

A new MVG strike is planned, but the date is not set

One thing is known for certain: a strike will take place in Munich within the next two weeks. The next round of negotiations is scheduled for March 9. Until that moment, Munich will in any case be affected by a strike once more, announced Softic. Specific dates have not yet been announced. We will announce the strike two to three days before it begins, he added: This way we want to make it as little burdensome for the population as possible. It is also unclear how long the protest will last: We will strike for as many days as necessary and as few as possible, explained Softic.

This Thursday, strikes are taking place in Regensburg and Augsburg, followed by Passau and Landshut on Friday.

Verdi requirements for public transport workers

For approximately 9,000 public transport employees in Bavaria, the Verdi union is demanding, among other things, an increase in payments by approximately 670 euros per month, as well as a reduction in weekly working hours. The municipal employers’ association criticized the work stoppage, stating that the union’s demands are unfeasible.

Current strikes cannot change this. Therefore, they unreasonably burden the population, the association reported. In addition, the increase in costs due to wage hikes will inevitably lead to an increase in fares and a reduction in the volume of transport services.Source: TZ
