Berlin – For those who no longer live with their parents, Christmas visits to family often turn into a chaotic and expensive endeavor. A recent study has analyzed optimal train routes and identified the day in the pre-Christmas period with the most favorable fares.
The Berlin School of Business and Innovation studied transport affordability for young people aged 15 to 26. By analyzing twenty of the largest university cities and 343 high-speed (ICE) and interregional (IC/EC) train routes, the specialists reached the following conclusions:
The Best Day to Save Money
The most affordable train tickets for all cities are offered on December 16. Particularly favorable conditions are available for passengers departing from Hanover, where the minimum ticket price starts from €14.93, and the maximum reaches €26.16.
Two exceptions were noted: travelers from Berlin are better off leaving a day later, on December 17. For those from Leipzig, it is cheaper to travel on December 15, when prices are at their lowest. It is worth noting that the railway is not the only carrier providing travel during the Christmas period.

A comparative table of the analyzed cities shows significant price differences. The “Price Difference” percentage likely represents the price volatility or the difference between the minimum and maximum fares on the analyzed routes from that city. Below is the list from the study:
