Tennis world stars to gather in Munich for BMW Open

The April air in the Bavarian capital this year will be filled not only with spring freshness but also with unprecedented sporting excitement.

The BMW Open clay-court tournament is preparing to present a field of participants that, in its quality and intensity, rival the atmosphere of Grand Slam events. Organizers have confirmed that the upcoming competitions in Munich will gather the elite of world tennis, turning local courts into the epicenter of a global showdown.

This season, the ATP-500 category tournament will showcase a player list unlike any other in the history of Bavarian tennis. Eight masters from the world’s top twenty have officially confirmed their participation in the clay-court battles taking place from April 11 to 19, 2026. Leading this impressive contingent is Germany‘s number one, Alexander Zverev from Hamburg. According to the organizing committee, the titled German will be joined on the courts by prominent representatives of the American school, Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton, as well as the charismatic Alexander Bublik from Kazakhstan. The registration of participants has officially concluded, and according to the tournament organization’s statement, such a high concentration of top-tier stars has never been seen in Munich before.

The geography of the participants is as impressive as their ranking positions. The list of big names is further complemented by Czech player Jakub Menšík, as well as representatives of the Italian tennis school, Flavio Cobolli and Luciano Darderi. South American temperament on the Aumeister courts will be represented by Argentina‘s Francisco Cerúndolo — all four are firmly established in the world’s top 20. Additional weight and status are brought to the tournament by confirmations from legendary tour veterans: Croatian Marin Čilić, the 2014 US Open champion, and crowd favorite Stefanos Tsitsipas from Greece will take to the court. The latter, a two-time Grand Slam finalist, is renowned for his aesthetic play specifically on clay surfaces.

Tournament Director Patrik Kühnen does not hide his delight when commenting on the final entry list. According to him, the combination of eight top-20 players with the most promising young talents of today makes this year’s draw more attractive than ever before. Kühnen explained that the presence of titans like Čilić and Tsitsipas guarantees spectators spectacular matches from the very first day of play, turning every set into an uncompromising struggle for the title.Source: dpa
