The KVR presented a new convenient service that turns obtaining documents from a bureaucratic quest into a transparent and understandable process. Now, every applicant can observe in real-time how their ID is being created, without leaving home and without wasting time on endless calls to the department.
As reported by the Munich administration, those who have applied for an electronic residence permit or a travel document can henceforth check the path of their order online. To use this service, city residents only need the serial number of the future document. This unique identifier is issued directly at the Service Center for Immigration and Naturalization immediately after all submitted information successfully passes the initial check on-site.
New service at KVR: Munich residents can check document status in real-time
The mechanics of the new system largely resemble the familiar tracking of postal parcels, making the interface intuitively clear. In a special request window, applicants see every step of their case. The entire production cycle becomes visible: from the moment the order reaches the machines of the Federal Printing Office to the completion of printing and the actual shipment of the finished form to the department. A particular convenience lies in the integration of services: as soon as the system records the arrival of the document at the KVR, the user is prompted to instantly book a convenient time for a visit and collection of the ID.
The head of the KVR, Dr. Hanna Sammüller, explained: Thanks to the new status check system, our clients see at a glance what stage their electronic residence permit or travel document is at. According to her, this online tool not only brings necessary clarity for citizens but also significantly eases the daily work of department employees. When information is available in one click, hundreds of daily clarifying questions disappear by themselves, allowing specialists to focus on processing new applications.
Digitalization should be felt by all residents of Munich
The head of the IT Department, Dr. Laura Dornheim, emphasized that the technological development of the city should serve the interests of every resident. She noted that as the head of the city’s IT service, she sees as her absolute priority such an organization of the digital environment in which people would feel a real improvement in the quality of life. According to her, this is equally important both for native Munich residents and for those who have only recently chosen this city as their home and are going through the integration process. The head of the department expressed sincere gratitude to the development teams whose professionalism allowed the launch of this important digital bridge between the authorities and society.Source: Munich City Municipality
