No train was nearby, but her injuries proved too severe for the pensioner to survive. Exactly two days later she died in hospital. Police reported her death on 2 October and are continuing to investigate why the woman lost her footing and fell from the platform.
Two Days in Hospital
The fall occurred on Tuesday, 29 September, at around 2:15 p.m. The woman was 73, lived in Munich and was a German citizen. The pensioner was standing on the platform when, for a reason as yet unknown, she lost her footing and fell backwards into the track trough. An ambulance crew took her to hospital with severe injuries. She died there on Thursday, 1 October.
What the Police Know
Munich police published the first report of the incident on 1 October, with an update on her death the following day. The investigation is being led by the city’s transport police.
Unfortunately, few details have been established so far:
no train was approaching the station at the moment of the fall;
the reason the woman lost her footing is unknown;
U-Bahn operations were not disrupted.
A Station in the City Centre
Odeonsplatz is located in Munich‘s Altstadt-Lehel district, on the northern edge of the Old Town. It is an underground interchange station with four platforms, where the U3, U4, U5 and U6 lines meet.
